EduKT: Specialized Private-Pay Physical Therapy

A Different Model of Physical Therapy for Complex Conditions

EduKT, Inc. is a specialized physical therapy, continuing education, and healthcare consulting company located in Draper, Utah. Our mission is to advance individualized patient care while contributing to the education and professional development of healthcare providers treating complex conditions.

Our clinical practice focuses on patients with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and related conditions that frequently require a more comprehensive and individualized approach to rehabilitation.

In addition to providing direct patient care, EduKT offers professional continuing education and consulting services designed to support clinical reasoning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the advancement of evidence-informed rehabilitation practices.

These three areas—patient care, professional education, and consulting—reflect our commitment to improving both the delivery of specialized rehabilitation services and the broader understanding of complex patient populations.

Why a Private-Pay Model

At EduKT, Inc., an independent private-pay physical therapy practice operating within the Active Lifestyles Physical Therapy clinic location, we believe exceptional physical therapy begins with the time to listen, the freedom to think critically, and the ability to develop individualized treatment strategies.

For patients living with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and related conditions, effective rehabilitation is rarely straightforward.

Symptoms frequently involve multiple body systems. Musculoskeletal instability, autonomic dysfunction, exercise intolerance, persistent pain, fatigue, and other overlapping concerns can make conventional rehabilitation approaches insufficient or inappropriate without careful modification.

These patients deserve care that acknowledges that complexity.

When Healthcare Prioritizes Efficiency Over Depth

Today’s healthcare system places substantial emphasis on productivity, standardized treatment pathways, documentation requirements, and reimbursement efficiency.

These pressures can create challenges for clinicians treating patients whose needs do not fit neatly into conventional treatment schedules or diagnostic categories.

Research into the diagnosis, underlying mechanisms, and management of hEDS, dysautonomia, and related conditions continues to evolve, challenging longstanding assumptions and informing new approaches to clinical care. As this evidence develops, established treatment protocols may not always reflect current scientific understanding, underscoring the importance of ongoing education, critical appraisal of emerging research, and individualized clinical decision-making.

The problem is not that efficient healthcare is inherently undesirable. Efficiency matters. But efficiency should serve the quality of care—not determine its limits.

For complex patients, a productive appointment may involve careful reassessment, clinical reasoning, education, coordination with other providers, or adjusting a treatment strategy based on subtle changes in tolerance.

Meaningful progress is not always measured by how many exercises are performed or how quickly a treatment session can be completed.

Why Private Pay?

EduKT operates as a private-pay physical therapy practice to provide greater flexibility in how care is structured and delivered.

At EduKT, each physical therapy appointment is conducted entirely one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, without delegating portions of the treatment session to support personnel. This continuity allows for ongoing clinical assessment, individualized treatment modifications, and direct patient education throughout the appointment—particularly important when managing complex, multisystem conditions.

This model allows treatment decisions to be guided primarily by clinical needs and collaborative goals rather than the administrative and reimbursement constraints of insurance contracts.

Our priorities include:

  • Individualized appointments: Time for thorough evaluation, treatment, and patient education.
  • Complex clinical reasoning: Attention to the relationships between musculoskeletal, autonomic, and other contributing conditions.
  • Thoughtful progression: Rehabilitation that respects symptom variability, recovery capacity, and individual tolerance.
  • Continuity of care: A consistent therapeutic relationship with an experienced clinician.
  • Collaboration: Communication with other healthcare professionals when appropriate.

Private pay does not guarantee better outcomes, and it is not the right financial choice for every patient. Our goal is to make the model transparent so individuals can decide whether it fits their needs.

Private-Pay Services & Insurance Reimbursement

EduKT, Inc. operates exclusively as a private-pay practice and does not maintain contracts with commercial health insurance companies or other third-party healthcare payers.

This model allows us to structure appointments and clinical services around individual patient needs, without the scheduling, treatment, and administrative constraints that can accompany insurance-based reimbursement.

Patients are responsible for payment directly to EduKT at the time services are provided.

Although EduKT does not bill insurance companies directly, patients with out-of-network physical therapy benefits may be eligible for partial reimbursement through their individual insurance plans. When appropriate, EduKT can provide an itemized receipt containing information that patients may use when submitting claims independently.

Eligibility for reimbursement, covered services, deductibles, reimbursement amounts, and claim-processing requirements are determined by each patient’s insurance plan. Submission of claims, communication with insurance carriers, and obtaining any available reimbursement remain the responsibility of the patient. EduKT cannot guarantee insurance reimbursement.

Patients may also be able to use funds from a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for eligible physical therapy services, subject to applicable tax rules and the requirements of their individual accounts. Patients should confirm eligibility with their plan administrator.

We recognize that healthcare expenses are an important consideration. Our intention is to provide clear information about the financial structure of our practice so patients can make informed decisions about whether EduKT’s specialized approach is appropriate for their clinical needs and personal circumstances.

Our commitment is to transparency in financial arrangements and individualized, thoughtful care throughout the rehabilitation process.

Specialized Care for hEDS, POTS, & Related Conditions

Patients with complex hypermobility and dysautonomia-related conditions often need more than a standard strengthening or conditioning program. In cases that involve ME-CFS and PEM, graded exercise programs are often contraindicated.

Treatment may require careful consideration of joint stability, proprioception, autonomic responses, pacing, exercise intolerance, orthostatic intolerance, and the potential interactions among coexisting conditions.

EduKT emphasizes an individualized approach that begins with understanding the whole clinical picture.

We recognize that patients with similar diagnoses may have very different functional capacities, symptom patterns, and responses to treatment.

Our role is to help each patient develop a practical rehabilitation strategy that reflects those differences.

A Commitment to Education & Collaboration

EduKT also reflects our commitment to clinical education, professional development, and consultation.

By integrating patient care with continuing education and collaboration, we aim to contribute to a more informed approach to managing complex rehabilitation conditions.

Moving Forward

The transition to EduKT represents an evolution in how we deliver care, not a departure from the values that have guided our practice.

Our commitment remains the same: thoughtful clinical reasoning, individualized treatment, respect for patient experience, and the pursuit of meaningful functional improvement.

Complex care deserves the time and attention necessary to do it well.
